There are two things that are constant in Australian sport – Willie Mason is a tool and that Frank Farina will get blind before a training session.
Sacked Brisbane Roar coach Frank Farina says he still has a future in Australian football despite being disgracefully sacked after being caught drink-driving, with what he claimed was "a bottle of Chardonnay, and a couple of glasses of red." I’m a huge fan of Brisbane Roar but seriously Frankie? Just cop it on the chin and walk away...or have a thousand beers and drive away.
The sacking of Farina has however, given hope to reserve goalkeeper Griffin McMaster who can become the Roar’s regular man between the sticks after Reddy was ruled out for at least a month with a heartlidge injury. It was no secret that Farina along with Danny ‘I’m only good for 30 minutes’ Titatto had no faith in McMaster even when Reddy went through a patch where his hands were obviously painted on – letting in numerous easy goals. McMaster made his first A-League appearance of the year last night and although he let in 3 goals, there was little he could do to stop them. The noticeably weak defending from Bob Malcolm ensured the Roar was never going to keep a clean sheet, or even score with the two worst strikers in the league; Serge Van dijk and Reinaldo bumbling their way around the attacking third.
I love the Sydney Roosters, 2002 was the greatest year of my life when Freddy lifted the NRL Premiership Trophy. However, I’m the first to admit that the club has serious cultural and administrative problems. Now Samsung has dumped the club because of disgraceful player behavior. Maybe its time for Julian O’Neil to be offered a short-term contract as player/coach. After all it seems urinating in public is a pre-requisite for the club.
In cricketing news, Nathan Hauritz fears spinners will be on the sidelines come Australian summer. Yes this is correct, especially if your name is Nathan Hauritz. I played my junior representative cricket with Hauritz and his off-spin bowling was like picking low hanging fruit, far too easy. Off-spinners don’t deserve respect, they deserve to watch their pies getting smashed 20 rows back.
On a sad note, The Gun Show (Daniel Bradshaw) is leaving the Lions after 13 seasons, two premierships and adoring Brisbane fans with the biggest biceps in the business. ‘He's advised (Brisbane) he wouldn't accept any offer from the club and he was going to have a week off and look at the market place.’ Sydney have an earlier pick in the national draft and are looking for a big-bodied spearhead after the loss of Barry Hall. Port Adelaide and North Melbourne are other clubs that may be interested in digging deep for Bradshaw. Regardless of where he goes, not even Fev ("I fucked Lara Bingle so I deserve respect"...and he does) can fill the void or bench press more than ‘The Show.’ But on a side note, the news Qld police are already putting bets on being the first to arrest Fevola is certainly a new spin on making sport more accessible to more people.
