Alabaster Agony

Far from a boar

A pig grunted. Across the road from my house, I heard a pig. It’s been on and off for a few weeks and started after the recent rainfall.

I live across the road from a creek and a massive park with long grass. So I couldn't even see this pig, this beast, this mighty monster of the undergrowth. Just hear it. Big tusks perhaps, definitely drooling jaws from the sound of it.
And maybe my imagination might sometimes run away with me a little bit.

But I had to do something for an animal that was obviously terrified and in pain. But if it was a wild animal, it may be put down when caught. How can someone live with that guilt?

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

So I called RSPCA. They said it was a koala.

Yes a koala. Cute, cuddly marsupial.

Guess who feels pretty foolish now?

But between you and me… I’m still not fully convinced it’s a koala. So if anyone is driving near parklands and hears an oinking sound, let me know! Because until I see it, until the long grass has been demolished, I still believe its some form of suffering animal. And a monster at that.
